Worthwhile Readings

I first read a tweet on Twitter.

Which took me to the Pearson Foundation and their summary of children in the digital world. Many of their findings were things that educators have assumed to be true through general observation, but it is nice that there is now research to back it.

Digital media positively impacts children’s opinion of learning, providing engagement opportunities not always seen with print materials.

The Pearson Foundation page on Emergent Literacy had a link to prior research, done by the Cooney Center.

The Joan Ganz Cooney Center (they had the original research and vision that led to creating Sesame Street) has an impressive collection of well written on learning in a digital world. It is obvious that they care through their mission statement:

The mission of The Joan Ganz Cooney Center is to catalyze and support research, innovation and investment in digital media technologies to advance children’s learning.
